Why This Matters to Me & The Community: I am a 52-year-old homeless college student maintaining a 3.8 GPA. For me, every dollar is a matter of survival. NetSpend’s predatory actions didn't just cause an inconvenience; they threatened my ability to eat and pay bills. If a bank can do this to a diligent student who keeps perfect records, they can do it to any vulnerable person in our community. What Happened (The Facts): NetSpend and their partner bank, Pathward N.A., seized $71.74 from my protected savings account to cover a "debt" that their own system created. Selective System Failures (The Hypocrisy): NetSpend claims their "system" is responsible for seizing my savings and that they "have no control" to stop it. Yet, when that same system fails to post my valid refund, they refuse to correct it. Their technology seems to only be "broken" when it benefits the bank, but works perfectly when it comes to taking my money. A Pattern of Abuse (Since July 2025): This was not a one-time incident. Since July 2025, I have been subjected to a campaign of dismissal and harassment. The "8-hour ordeal" where agents hung up on me repeatedly was just the climax of six months of rude, abusive treatment where my pleas for help were ignored. The Cover-Up: My transaction statement is missing an entire day of history (July 18, 2025), hiding the evidence of the missing credit (ARN: 8YG09984E16142510). The Entrapment: When I attempted to move my remaining school funds to a secure bank, NetSpend blocked my routing number and trapped my money. They forced me to pay excessive transaction fees just to rescue my own deposit dollar-by-dollar. Who is Responsible: NetSpend (Program Manager) and Pathward, N.A. (Issuing Bank) are solely responsible for these unfair practices. My Demands (The Solution): I am calling on NetSpend to take immediate action: RELEASE the $71.74 seized from my savings account immediately. LOCATE and POST the missing $128 refund using the provided ARN. UNBLOCK my account restrictions and REFUND the predatory fees charged while I was forced to use alternative transfer methods. STOP the abusive "stall and disconnect" tactics used against customers in distress. The Impact on Consumers: We cannot allow fintech companies to treat student deposits like their own personal piggy bank. If no change is made, thousands of other students and low-income families will continue to have their savings raided and their funds trapped by a system designed to generate fees rather than provide service.
